Solicitation of Candidates for:

  • Town of Smyrna Council
    • Town of Smyrna Election to be held Tuesday April 28, 2026

Positions Open

  • District 2 council seat with a term of three (3) years (May 2026 to April 2029)
  • At-Large council seat with a term of three (3) years (May 2026 to April 2029)

Criteria to Run for An Elected Office

In order to be eligible to run for an elected office in the Town of Smyrna, applicants must meet:

  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Pass a background check / not convicted of a felony
  • Be a resident of the Town of Smyrna for at least one (1) year prior to the election
    • Candidates for a representative district council seat must have resided in the district for at least one (1) year
  • Be a qualified to vote at the town election, which additionally requires a candidate to be a U.S. citizen, never have been adjudged a mentally incompetent person by a court of competent jurisdiction, and never have been disenfranchised pursuant to the Delaware Constitution.

Filing Deadlines & Applications


The deadline to file for office is Monday, March 16, 2025, at 4:30 pm and must include a completed application and 2026 background check. Consideration will not be considered if both are not completed and received by this date and time.
