Election & Voter Information

Overview

Town elections are held the last Tuesday in April each year. All citizens who are 18 years of age and who have lived in the Town of Smyrna for at least 30 days preceding the election date are eligible to vote provided they are properly registered with the State of Delaware Department of Elections.

2026 Election

The 2026 election has the follow seats open:

At-Large - 3 year term (May 2026 - April 2029)
District 2 - 3 year term (May 2026 - April 2029)

Voter Registration

Not registered to vote? You have several options.

In-person at Town Hall Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 4 p.m.; excluding holidays. We also have four after hours days set up in March. Check the Voter Registration page for more information.
Online via the State of Delaware Website.
In-person at the Kent County Department of Elections.

Voter Requirements

Per Town Charter, Section 5.5.2, any person shall be qualified to vote who, on the date of election

is a United States citizen;
has attained eighteen (18) years of age;
has been continuously domiciled in the Town for at least thirty (30) days;
has not been adjudged a mentally incompetent person by a court of competent jurisdiction; and
has not been disenfranchised pursuant to Sections 3 or 7 of Article V of the Constitution of the State of Delaware

Proof of identity and address is required on election day, (i.e. driver's license, passport, military i.d., etc).

Voter registration closes at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2026. Any person submitting their registration after this date will not be considered eligible to vote in the April 28, 2026 election.
