New Town Manager

Sheldon P. Hudson

The Town of Smyrna is pleased to announce that Sheldon P. Hudson, a downstate Delaware native and resident, has been appointed to serve as its town manager

A strong proponent of “local control” (10th amendment); a passionate promoter of economic development; and an action-oriented reformer, Hudson most-recently served as the town manager of the Town of Millsboro (2016–22). He has also worked in professional roles at the county (Queen Anne’s) and state (DE) levels of government. Hudson has policy, human resources, and budgeting experience.

Along with obtaining doctoral credits in organizational leadership from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (an HBCU), Hudson earned a master’s degree in government from Regent and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Indiana Wesleyan University. He is a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society.

Hudson is an International City/County Management Association credentialed manager (ICMA-CM) candidate (of the cities in DE, only 9% are managed by an ICMA-CM or ICMA-CM candidate). He is a “graduate” of the University of Virginia Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service’s by-invitation-only Senior Executive Institute; ICMA’s by-invitation-only Leadership ICMA program; and the University of Delaware Institute for Public Administration’s Academy for Excellence in Local Government Leadership. In addition, Hudson earned the Delaware Planning Education Certificate.

Hudson serves on the Regent MPA (Master of Public Administration) Advisory Board. He is a member of the board of The River–A Wesleyan Church and was a member of the board of Lighthouse Christian School. Along with serving as a speaker and a panelist, Hudson is involved with the Delaware Decision Makers group and Delaware League of Local Governments—among others.

Sheldon’s wife, Kristan, is a native of Canada. She and Sheldon have two children—Zachary and Eliana—and a miniature schnauzer named Beamer. Sheldon’s other interests include striving to authentically “live out” his philosophy and values; spending time with his family and friends; writing; dining out; traveling; camping; and biking.

Thank you,

Mayor Robert C. Johnson
