The community of Smyrna is served by the Citizens' Hose Company Number 1 Inc., an all-volunteer organization. The company provides service within the Smyrna Fire District 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Equipment is dispatched through the central Kent County Enhanced 911 Communications Center in Dover.
Department Apparatus
The company responds to over 400 alarms and accidents every year. They are capable of handling most fire and rescue needs and their equipment includes:

6,000-gallon water tanker
Four-wheel drive brush unit
Heavy duty rescue truck
Small boat
Three Class A pumpers
Three utility vehicles
Marching Unit & Band
The Citizens' Hose Company Marching Unit and Band are award-winning and the pride of Delaware. On more than one occasion, this highly competitive group has captured the highly coveted Governor's Cup and has won the cup more than any other fire department in Delaware.
