Property Taxes Are Due

Just a friendly reminder that Town of Smyrna property taxes are due by 4:30 PM on September 29, 2017 to avoid any penalty.

Any property tax payment received after that time will be assessed a penalty at the rate of 1 1/2 percent per month.

While the ordinance does help keep the streets clean, that is not its main purpose.

Notice of Ordinance Adoption

At their meeting on August 21, 2017, the Mayor and Council of the Town of Smyrna adopted Ord. No. 005-17, an ordinance to amend Appendix A ("Zoning") of the Town Code of the Town of Smyrna to include a maximum impervious lot coverage requirement in the

Central Commercial (CC) District.

This ordinance amends the Zoning Code of the Town of Smyrna to include a maximum impervious lot coverage requirement of 90 percent, which requirement was inadvertently omitted from a prior Zoning Code amendment.

Hydrant Flushing & Flow Testing

The Town of Smyrna Water Department personnel will be flushing and flow testing fire hydrants between 7:00 AM and 3:30 PM on September 12, 13, 14, and 15, 2017 weather permitting.

In case of inclement weather, the flushing will be postponed until September 19, 20, 21, and 22, 2017. This is necessary to purge our water system and to provide quality water to our residents.

Justice Assistance Grant

On August 3, 2017, the US Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, released the approved funding allocations for the annual formula based Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program for the FY2017 Local Solicitation.

The Dover Police Department was listed as a disparate entity along with the Smyrna Police Department and Kent County, Delaware.  The total amount awarded this year is $59,281.00.
