Sidewalk Responsibility

Please inspect your sidewalks to be sure they are clear, accessible, and properly maintained.

All sidewalk areas shall be kept in a proper state of repair. The Town Code requires that if any sidewalk or portion thereof by virtue of its state of disrepair shall be constituted as a danger to public health and safety, the property owner will be required to repair, replace or install sidewalks located on, adjoining, along, or in front of their private property.

It is the property owner’s responsibility for the cost of all sidewalk improvements including, but not limited to, settling caused by existing utilities.  Failure to comply requires the Town to complete the work and bill the property owner as outlined in the ordinance.  Please keep your sidewalks clear of weeds and vegetation, and remove ice and snow in the winter.

By working together on this issue, we can improve the appearance of our community, increase the accessibility to our citizens with disabilities and avoid the costs associated with enforcement.
