Recycling Program

Effective Friday, July 1, 2011, only recyclable materials will be collected during the Friday collection day. Recyclable materials must be placed in special recycling carts or as otherwise provided by the ordinance. There will be no increase in the monthly trash fee as a result of the introduction of Friday-only recyclable collection. Trash as permitted by town ordinance, including recyclables, will still be picked up on Tuesdays.

Recycling protects and expands U.S. manufacturing jobs and increases U.S. competitiveness, reduces our reliance on landfills and incinerators, prevents pollution caused by the manufacturing of products from virgin materials, decreases emissions of greenhouse gases that contribute to global climate change, protects our health and environment when harmful substances are removed from the waste stream, conserves our natural resources because it reduces the need for raw materials, and help sustain the environment for future generations.

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE - the most effective way to reduce waste is to not create it in the first place. By reducing the reusing, consumers can save natural resources and reduce waste management costs; and by designing, manufacturing, purchasing, or using materials in ways that reduce the amount of the toxicity of trash created before they become municipal solid waste.

"Recyclables" includes, but is not limited to, the following: narrow-neck plastic bottles (such as milk jugs), bleach detergent containers, and shampoo bottles), glass bottles and jars, metal containers (such as aluminum, steel, and tin), plastic grocery bags, magazines, junk mail, envelopes, newspapers, corrugated cardboard, boxboard (cereal boxes), clean paper bags, catalogs, telephone books, soft cover books, colored paper, and white office paper. Any item with food residue (such as pizza boxes) is not considered a recyclable, and all liquid containers must first be emptied.

Styrofoam IS NOT considered a recyclable and must be disposed of with your regular trash.

Please remember that yard waste may not be disposed of in either the Tuesday or Friday trash pickup.
